What is Cultured Marble?
Cultured Marble, as its name implies,
has the look of natural marble. Cultured marble products
are manufactured using a casting process which combines
a liquid polymer resin with an inert filler material. A
protective coating, called a gel coat, is applied during
the manufacturing process, and this coating becomes an integral
part of the cultured marble product. Colorants are added
to the polymer/filler matrix in a manner that provides veining
which mimics the appearance of natural marble. Because the
filler material involved (approximately 75% of the product)
is actual crushed stone, the polymer casting process yields
a hard, durable product which takes on the look and feel
of natural marble. Cultured marble is a very appropriate
descriptor for this family of cast polymer products.
Cultured marble products easily meet minimum
quality standards to resist water, heat, stains, burns,
chemicals and everyday wear and tear.
