What is Cultured Stone?
Cultured Stone is the name given for a group of MasterCast Engineered Composites™ produced by a similar process yet yielding very different aesthetic characteristics. Cultured stone products include cultured marble, cultured onyx, and cultured granite. As a group, cultured stone products are manufactured by a casting process which combines a liquid polymer resin with an inert filler material. Colorants are introduced to the blended material to provide the veining apparent in natural stone. A protective coating, called a gel coat, is applied during the manufacturing process and this coating becomes the integral non-porous surface of the cultured stone product. The different products are produced by varying the filler material to produce different effects:
Cultured Marble products give versatility in color selection by adding different colored veining and background pigment combinations.
Cultured Onyx products have a more three dimensional effect with a translucent appearance.
Cultured Granite products have an aggregate appearance similar to quarried granite.
All of these MasterCast Cultured™ Stone products take on the look and feel of their natural stone counterparts and have a hard, durable surface which meets quality standards to resist water, heat, stains, burns, chemicals, and everyday wear and tear.
